Making a formula bottle

Water, powder and temperature, without the stress

Step by step

  1. Wash your hands and prepare on a clean surface. Sterilize bottles until age one, and wash them well after every feed.
  2. Boil the water for two minutes in a covered kettle. This goes for any water: tap, bottled or from a dispenser.
  3. Let the water cool to room temperature, with the kettle still covered.
  4. Pour the water into the bottle, then add powder exactly as the pack says, only with the scoop from the tin, levelled.
  5. Close and shake until the powder dissolves.
  6. Test a drop on the inside of your wrist before feeding. It should feel pleasant, not hot.

Good to know

  • Never warm formula in the microwave: it can heat unevenly and burn. To warm it, use a bowl of hot water or a bottle warmer.
  • A made-up bottle keeps up to an hour at room temperature. Throw away what is left after a feed, and never put a warmed bottle back in the fridge.
  • Every formula is a little different, so the instructions on the pack always come first.
